The Links, Incorporated continues to implement programs that are responsive to the academic, cultural, health, social awareness, career development, and mentoring needs of youth. The Services to Youth facet is an integrated approach to preparing young people to succeed in the 21st century workforce.
The Topeka Chapter of the Links Services to Youth programming includes an annual African American Read-In in-which children and adults share and read excerpts from their favorite books with others. This event is a local favorite held annually in February at the Topeka/Shawnee County Library.
Additionally, with the help of the Topeka community donations and support, over $100,000 in college scholarships have been provided to local high school graduates to financially support their successful matriculation through a post-secondary educational institution of their choice. The selected recipients are recognized at a baccalaureate program annually, are awarded and encouraged in support of their academic success. Scholarship recipients are tracked and support provided throughout their collegiate matriculation. Scholarship recipients are also encouraged to return to the Topeka, KS community and join to The Topeka (KS) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated in our continuous efforts to effect positive community change.
Scholarship applications are typically accepted each spring and funds disbursed for the following fall educational fees. Check out our ‘Chapter News’ page to see when scholarship applications will be accepted.
